StartupWeekend

Yesterday I attended my first day at StartupWeekend - What a BLAST!  This morning I’m exhausted and dragging a bit - so I might not make it up to Boulder until 11 - but I’ll definitely be there.

Here’s a quick recap of events:

  • Friday Night - 68 People gathered in Boulder, CO to pitch ideas and vote on exactly what our newly formed company would do.  Folks were broken into teams depending on skill and preference.  The teams include: creative, development, promotions, Business/SEO, Legal, UI, & User Experience.
  • Saturday - work starts on VoSnap.  Legal drafts operating agreements, the company is incorporated (as an LLC/C-Corp).  Logos are designed, development charges full speed ahead, and promotions starts the buzz (there’s even been mention that VoSnap is in negotiations with an undisclosed investor - and the number 40million keeps popping up.  Could VoSnap be hiring soon?)
  • We have streaming video on UStream - but rather sketchy internet in the offices - with connections going up and down - but we make the very best of it.
  • We make TechCrunch!
  • We get really close to a working alpha prototype (we could already be there - I left around 11 PM).
  • I got to meet some of the most talented and amazing folks on the planet - I’m coming up with a list to share :)

All and all, I can’t wait to get back to StartupWeekend.  A special thank you to Andrew Hyde for inviting me - and for telling me I helped to inspire this amazing endeavor!

Erica, it’s no surprise to me that you would’ve helped inspire something like this. You ROCK! Keep up all of the incredible work that you do.

Hey Erica, awesome job there :) I can’t believe the TechCrunch community, instead of encouraging you guys they are giving reasons why this won’t work or why it’s not siginificant, looks like its digg 2.0

    Hi Erica

What a great idea! I had such fun watching the development over the weekend but was sad the product didn’t launch in time. I would love to see something like this develop in Houston.

[...] It was also with great interest that I followed one of the latest projects that she has been involved in, called StartupWeekend, which was the reason why I decided to write this post in the first place.  StartupWeekend was an effort by approx. 70 people passionate about technology, including developers and veterans from other startups in the Denver area to completely create a Web 2.0 company in one weekend from scratch, including everything from working product, to legal, marketing, and everything else.  According to her blog site, Erica helped to inspire the concept and you can see her listed as one of the founders on the StartupWeekend web site.  The final outcome of the exercise was that the group came really close to realizing their goal and I think that anyone who is considering a startup would do well to checkout their blog and comments and understand more about all of the lessons learned.  In the meantime, we are anxiously awaiting the launch of their product VoSnap.com and what future adventures Erica will lead us on in the world of Web 2.0. I Have Blogger's Block
I was chatting with my friend Laura Mayes tonight - explaining how I have Blogger’s Block.  Tomorrow I head to San Francisco - and I’ve already stocked up on awesome reading materials for the plane - including the Complete Works of Jane Austen and Katharine Hepburn’s Autobiography.  Laura’s advice:

The best way to get out of a block is to read good writing.

And to go to Northern California.

My personal link policy is as follows - I only link to the blogs of people I actually know in real life (with the exception of the "Other Erica's" section). I think when you add someone to your blogroll there should be real meaning attached. Most of the people I link to are not only acquaintances - but folks I am lucky enough to call my friends.
