I’ve been afraid to write this post – cause frankly I don’t know what to say. I have no excuse – except my life has been CHAOTIC.
But let me back up.
The other night I was talking to my good friend Ruth about life, love, happiness, money and finding balance between doing what you LOVE, and doing what you MUST to pay the bills. In many respects – I’m LUCKY. I actually get paid to spend most of my time doing what I love. Ruth told me that while she loves running her own business – she often feels OVERWHELMED and over-extended. “Too many things keep falling through the cracks. I need a better SYSTEM to manage my clients and my life,” she said. But it was what she said next that made me feel so GUILTY and so ASHAMED that I knew it was time to write this post. “If I won the Lottery tomorrow – do you know what I’d do? I’d hire a TEAM OF EXPERTS to help me organize and improve my life. I’d get a personal coach and a financial planner and someone to help me take my business to the next level, and maybe even a personal trainer”. Ruth went on “If I won enough – I’d hire David Allen to help me Get Things Done.”
As she was talking, I realized that I actually HAVE all of those things. I have been gifted an entire TEAM OF PEOPLE who have agreed to help me improve my life – and instead of taking advantage of this amazing network of resources – I’ve been spending my time just trying (as Tony Robbins says) “To Make a LIVING, Instead of DESIGNING A LIFE“. I’ve gotten caught up in the day to day STRUGGLES of living. I’ve spent too much time doing things that seem to matter in the SHORT TERM – but really don’t help me realize my long term DREAMS. Now – I’m not the first person ever to get “caught up” in life, nor is this the first time I’ve faced this particular challenge.
So I wanted to say to you – and to the WONDERFUL people who have volunteered to help me improve my life. I’M SORRY. I’ll do BETTER next time. Because You DESERVE better. But more importantly I deserve better.
