In Search of the “Mot Juste”

Words are powerful.

PURPOSE. TRANSPARENCY. AUTHENTICITY. COMMUNITY. PASSION.

Say these words aloud. How do they make you feel?

Words can feed your soul.

You can EMBRACE the chaos, or FIND your higher purpose. Words are transformational.

It is no wonder then, that the more words we have to describe our lives, the better our lives become.

“…when I knew better I did better.” ~Maya Angelou

Two years ago, the words I used to describe my life and the world around me were very different. And not surprisingly - my life was different. The simple truth is - we become like the people and the ideas we hang around with. So if you want to change the world or move the world, hang out with people who already are. And you’ll know them by the language they use - words like: INSPIRE. CHANGE. DREAM. ENGAGE. IMPACT. INFLUENCE. LEGACY.

“If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think.” ~Oprah Winfrey

Find the words that let you express your higher self, and watch your influence expand.

In a world that seems as if everyone has resigned to egocentric endeavors and materialistic gain, I am refreshed to read your enthusiasm about reinventing, be it yourself or your surroundings. I feel fortunate to have met you. :D

To reiterate the key point that inspired me, “The simple truth is - we become like the people and the ideas we hang around with.”

This reminds me of a friend’s away message on his phone. “This is JJ. I’m making some changes. If I don’t call you back, you might be one of those changes.”

I’m truly impressed with how you’ve taken steps to expand your career. I wish you good fortune in everything you do in the future.

    Hi Erica,
As you can see from my URL we have things in common! I found your work through Bill Johnson’s post about the board you are both on - then your website name made me curious.

I just sent a track back on this motivational piece you wrote, but the most intriguing part of your site to me was the as yet not complete personal MBA. As a woman passionate about the future of education, I think personal degrees are one solution that will be legitimized in the future.

    Thanks - Alana

I Have Blogger's Block
I was chatting with my friend Laura Mayes tonight - explaining how I have Blogger’s Block.  Tomorrow I head to San Francisco - and I’ve already stocked up on awesome reading materials for the plane - including the Complete Works of Jane Austen and Katharine Hepburn’s Autobiography.  Laura’s advice:

The best way to get out of a block is to read good writing.

And to go to Northern California.

Check. And Check.

My personal link policy is as follows - I only link to the blogs of people I actually know in real life (with the exception of the "Other Erica's" section).
