Issues
There’s a store here in Houston called “Issues” that sells nothing but Magazines. There are magazines on sports, business, art, finance & entertainment – there are bridal magazines, science magazines, magazines for writers and even assorted periodicals. Want to read the latest copy of Le Monde, or find that obscure niche magazine you just love – then this is the place.
Today I stopped by Issues and picked up a few magazines – for what I have decided to call – Magazine Mondays (I’ve also written an aside on this here). Reading Magazines is kinda like Reading Feeds for me – in that I like variety. If you were to examine my Feed Reader you’d find that I subscribe to blogs about business, finance, world news, technology, social media, marketing, pr, and entrepreneurship. I also read a collection of blogs written by my closest friends. So picking just one Magazine or one topic proved to be a challenge.
We live in a time when information overload is standard – in business and even in our personal lives. There is so much to learn, so much to do, so much that could be accomplished. If you’re looking for a new niche market to enter – then I highly recommend coming up with a way to not only filter this information – but help people author, categorize, and retrieve this information from anywhere – at anytime. Oh wait – I guess that’s what the internet is for???
Ideas
As part of the Visual and Creative Thinking School I’m attending at PopLabs – one of our activities is to come up with a set number of ideas each week. My magic number is “50″. So each week one of my tasks is to come up with 50 new ideas. Some days this is really hard – other days it’s remarkably easy. I was talking to Kelsey the other day and he said that he came up with 32 new ideas in a couple of hours.
I’m a little behind – so today I’m playing “Idea Catchup”.
Identity
In doing all of this thinking about ideas – it’s hard not to spend a little time reflecting on who I am and where I’m going. Most of you know me as “the #1 Erica on Google” – or as the blogger behind “ReinventingErica.com“. Some of you know me as the CXO of Peanut Butter Media , or as the On The Road Correspondent for The Business Makers Radio Show. Michael Garfield calls me the “Social Media Gal About Town” — (I told him I was going to have that printed on my Business Cards).
But since my friend Matthew and I are about to start reading (or re-reading in my case) Sophie’s World – I’ve been feeling philosophical these days. I started this Reinvention project because I wanted to improve every aspect of my life – Physical – Mental – Spiritual. I’ve had a few set backs – and that’s okay -as long as every day is an improvement on the last. And as long as I’m always learning. But from here on out I really want to push the limits of what’s possible in my life and here on this blog. I’d like to remain as open and as honest about where I am and where I stand as possible – and I hope to share with you what works and what doesn’t for me in the realm of Finances, Career, Health, Fitness, and Relationships.
