Day 6 – Gorillas in Rwanda, Thoughts on GTD, & The Luck of Seven

Gorillas in Rwanda

My friend Diana runs Truevinyard Ministries in San Marcos, Texas. For serveral years now, she’s been taking a group of people to Mozambique. One year over the course of 3 weeks they built a Hospital – another year they built a Kitchen. They do this out of love. This year she decided to expand her vision. With little more than an idea and a desire to make a difference she traveled to Rwanda 2 months ago. She might be a tall, beautiful blond – but trust me she’s tougher than she looks!

On her trip to Rwanda she had the extraordinary chance to go visit with a family of Silverback Gorillas. Here’s a short video I recorded with her about her experience.

Thoughts on GTD

I think the reason that GTD works is that it’s as simple or as complex as you want to make it. You can go low-tech, high-tech, or somewhere in between – and each system will work perfectly as long as you use it. After spending a couple days revisiting the program – I’ve decided to use an open source program called Tracks in conjunction with the GTD Gmail Extension to help management all my to-do’s. Stay tuned for screenshots of my Tracks Account.

The Luck of Seven

I’ve always dreamed of taking a trip around the world – and I’m amazed by the number of people in my life who have done just that. Their willingness to explore the unknown is my constant reminder that anything is possible. A couple years ago my friend Robby Slaughter took a 54 week trip around the world on < $30/day. He blogged his trip at NoSetPlans.com (site is currently down as he is shopping his travels with publishers).

Last year, my friend’s Lee and Sachie LeFever took a year off and traveled around the world – blogging and video blogging their adventures. You can see more of their trip at: The World is Not Flat

Today – my friend Noel Hidalgo is 3 months into a 7 month trek across 7 continents. His entire trip has been sponsored by donations to his blog. You can read more about his adventures, view videos, and donate to his trip by visiting: The Luck of Seven. I wish him all the best over the next 4 months – and look forward to taking him out for a drink when he returns back to the states to hear all about his travels.

I Have Blogger's Block
I was chatting with my friend Laura Mayes tonight - explaining how I have Blogger’s Block.  Tomorrow I head to San Francisco - and I’ve already stocked up on awesome reading materials for the plane - including the Complete Works of Jane Austen and Katharine Hepburn’s Autobiography.  Laura’s advice:

The best way to get out of a block is to read good writing.

And to go to Northern California.

Check. And Check.

Link Policy

My personal link policy is as follows - I only link to the blogs of people I actually know in real life (with the exception of the "Other Erica's" section). I think when you add someone to your blogroll there should be real meaning attached. Most of the people I link to are not only acquaintances - but folks I am lucky enough to call my friends.
