Thoughts On Change

So here I am - a victim of my own choices (I’ve always wanted an excuse to quote Ally McBeal).
I like that phrase - “victim of my own choices”. But in my case - the connotation is all wrong. I might indeed be a “victim” of my own choices - but that’s a very good thing. Very good indeed. Maybe it would be better to say - I’m the lucky recipient of my own choices
Okay - enough diatribe on linguistical phrasing and word choice.
I’ve always liked Ally McBeal - admired her really. Okay - so she’s a little neurotic - and she has hallucinations. But who wouldn’t want to work in a place where people spontaneously burst into song and dance? I’ve actually been thinking that that might be a large part of who we become as a company. Okay - so we won’t exactly burst into song & dance during normal business hours (hmmm…that might be a lie
- but I do foresee a lot of juggling & karaoke in our near future. Speaking of which - I hearby appoint Nichole head Karaoke Cheerleader (even though you’re our client ;). I also foresee a lot of long nights, exciting challenges, and opportunities to learn and grow.
I’ve been thinking a lot these days about what makes a great company. Partly because Ed was kind enough to include me in a panel submission for SXSWi entitled: We Heart You!!! - Growing Your Business from Within. It’s all about investing in your companies greatest asset - it’s employees. I’m looking forward to working with people who share these beliefs - as well as partnering with other companies in the Houston community. Together we can do amazing work - while making a difference.
I’d like to give a little shout out to two of my favorite people - who have recently moved on to new endeavors. First - to Jonti Bolles - Congratulations on becoming a Schipulite
Remind me to show you the Happy Happy, Schipul Schipul dance sometime!
Next - to everyone’s favorite Angel Investor - Marc Nathan. Congratulations on your new position at HTC. I know you’ll continue the great work started by Robert Brackenridge.
The Houston Tech Community is very lucky to have you both!!!

Erica, change is truly in the air and I think I could spontaneously break into the Ally McBeal Baby dance at anytime. I am proud for the steps you have taken for yourself and honored for the opportunties available at Schipul. They have an amazing team and people are THE key. What an excellent topic for growing.
Now for the Happy Happy, Schipul Schipul dance, I could definitely use a lesson. Bring it on! Congrats as well to Marc who is going to conntinue putting Houston technology on the map.
